Greenpeace Landship at the Sziget Festival in Budapest

The 8 days Sziget Festival, with about 300.000 visitors, is one of the biggest music events in Hungary.
For this special date the GP office in Budapest has prepared a big info section and an eco- adventure- trail together with other NGO’s.

We -about 10 Hungarian Volunteers and people from the Budapest and Vienna office are here with lots of information, action and we want the people to participate!
We bring along the Landship, a colourful exhibition and lots of information material on Greenpeace activities – most of it in Hungarian.

Main objective is to inform a broad – mostly young - public about the "Clean Water Tour" – the most actual GP activity in Central East Europeto activate people to getinvolved in the activities.

Volunteers are needed in many fields: activism, translations, campaign-, office- or information work, fund raising,.....
The response of the people is good: on just 2 days we collected over 60 new volunteer contacts.

Visitors are invited to participate the Eco-Adventure-Trailwith several thrilling stations
like crossing over a rope 8 m above the ground, using a giant rope slide to get down on the ground again; there is a barrel – race and further stations at the "Eco Corner". The price to gain for successful participants is a GP T-Shirt.

This action trail is set up in cooperation between Greenpeace and other NGO’s like the Hungarian branch of Outward Bound – an international outdoor organisation.

General interest and response from people is quite good. There is always a bunch of, mostly young visitors around. It is clear that they want to talk with Greenpeacers or wantto do the action trail. Brief thematic information generally is enough and nearly nobody stays longer in the exhibitionsector to read further details.
No wonder – the weather is hot, the music loud and the general mood of the visitors is to relax, hang or stroll around and to have fun.
This afternoon some of us bring drums and a guitar, so the atmosphere becomes even nicer.
